Recognition
& Accomplishments
01. In 1985, CBM received the "President's Volunteer Action Award" from President Ronald Reagan in recognition of its national volunteer efforts in serving male children. CBM was one of only 18 organizations nationwide to receive this prestigious award.
02. In 1988, CBM received national media attention and recognition for Project 2000. This project was featured on the television show "60 Minutes" as a unique approach to mentoring young boys.
03. In 1988, CBM in conjunction with business and social leaders created Project Northstar, a tutoring program designed to address the needs of homeless children living in shelters in the Nation's capital. Since its inception, the program has become incorporated with its own board and executive director.
04. In 1996, CBM convened the National Forum on Fatherhood and the African American Family, which examined the role of the father in the family, with an emphasis on providing solutions to the fatherless.
05. In 1997, CBM was invited by the Points of Light Foundation and Colin Powell to participate in President Clinton's Summit on Volunteerism.
06. In 1997, CBM was selected by the Office of Family Planning, Department of Health and Human Services, as one of ten groups in the country to develop a demonstration male reproductive health model that could be replicated nationwide. The Peer Education and Reproductive Counseling for Young Men (PERCY) is a project designed to help preteen and teenage boys abstain from premature sex, and to make wise decisions in life through discussions on sexuality and other issues crucial to childhood development.
07. On October 20, 2001, CBM
celebrated more than 25 years of "Caring for Our Youth" with its
first fundraising gala honoring its founding members, and Attorney
Johnnie Cochran, Congressperson Maxine Waters (D-CA), Congressperson
Elijah Cummings (D-MD), and the State Representative Dwight Evans
(D-PA).
